Somebody's Gotta Do ItTM
3261048939_c20c14482c_oIf it’s not obvious, let me say that I love my role on Dirty Jobs, and firmly believe that celebrating and sharing the contributions of regular working people is more important than ever. We plan to do more of it on Dirty Jobs. As I have said repeatedly, I have not had an original idea since season one of the show so we have relied on the viewers to help program the show and they have not disappointed. Discovery has been inundated with ideas to help keep me gainfully employed for the last five seasons. But we want to take it to the next level and ask you to step up your participation. We want you to submit videos that highlight people in your life, who do the kinds of jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us. We will use them to help decide what jobs we might film for the next season of Dirty Jobs.

However, we realized that so many of the ideas we get for Dirty Jobs can’t be used for one reason or another. Those reasons have little to do with the fact that the person or job should not be highlighted. It has more to do with the fact that making TV is cumbersome, time consuming, and expensive. For that reason, we are only able to highlight a few jobs on a television series. That gave us an idea. Discovery and I decided to join forces and solicit videos that can not only be a research vehicle for Dirty Jobs but that can be used on this part of the site. Think Dirty Jobs, only smaller. Much smaller. This is where we’ll feature short videos submitted by you, celebrating men and women with the work ethic that built the country we live in, that for some reason or another can’t make it on the show. So, get a camera in hand and send us videos of people and jobs you think would be of interest. Keep in mind that no job is too small or too unimportant. We know there are interesting jobs and people out there and with your help, we can find them.

Now for the legal mumbo-jumbo. If you want to submit a video, make sure you read the terms and conditions on the site. (For those of you that can’t find them, click HERE. However, I must ask that if you can’t find them, how will you ever hope to find a good job?) The terms and conditions basically say that you are not going to do anything wrong while creating your clip and that you agree to give them to Discovery and me to use for pretty much anything. They also say that you agree to indemnify everyone (including my Mom) if you do something wrong. My Mom required that one. So get shooting and, for goodness sake, don’t do anything reckless, dangerous or illegal in the preparation of your video. I’m the only one that can do that (well, at least the first two of them).

If you want to submit a video for what we call “SGDI”, please contact info@mikeroweworks.com or come back here soon.  We’ll be posting more information with a bunch of actual details shortly.  OK, so yeah, you’re gonna have to sign a release and all that stuff but what - you want to do it?  Well, Somebody’s Gotta Do It – right?
