On behalf of Mike Rowe and mikeroweWORKS, we’re excited to announce that the mikeroweWORKS Foundation has partnered with Scholarship America to establish the mikeroweWORKS Foundation Education Scholarship Program.  The total amount to be distributed this year is $250,000.  The program is set up to award individual scholarships to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for an amount up to $2,500.

Scholarship America, the nation’s largest non-profit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization, has distributed more than $2.7 billion to 1.8 million students across the country through various programs.

This program is for students who are enrolled in a skilled trade program at a two-year college, vocational school or approved training institute. Instructions for completing and submitting the application are provided when an option is selected.

December 17 marks the 109th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first controlled, powered, and sustained heavier-than-air human flight. In honor of their soaring accomplishment, we’ve researched a number of scholarships for students whose heads are in the clouds.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF), created by the Mercury 7 astronauts, awards twenty-eight $10,000 scholarships annually. Their mission is to promote the importance of science and technology to the general public, and they provide college scholarships for students pursuing science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) degrees.

Scholarship candidates must be at least second year (sophomore) college students, have excellent grades, and have conducted a substantial amount of lab and research work in their field. In addition, they must be nominated by a faculty member at one of the 27 participating colleges and universities, so check the list and contact the ASF liaison at your school if you are interested in applying for this prestigious award.

We are pleased to announce that the mikeroweWORKS Foundation continues to support Career & Technical Education in the construction industry by awarding tool scholarships to students enrolled in AED Accredited and Affiliated construction equipment technology academic programs. These are our construction equipment maintenance and repair technicians of the future. In 2013, a total of $54,000 in tools scholarships will be awarded; fifty-four graduating students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
