We have never been more divided as a country or a people.
My goodness. I suppose it's easy to say such things when one has never been part of a group that has been hated, discriminated against.

I could understand if someone is unhappy with the way things are, or if someone feels that Obama has been unable to carry out what he promised during his campaign, or if someone has different ideas about the direction the country should be headed. But to suggest that Obama, or anyone, is ruining the country on purpose is just asinine.

What would you do if you wanted to "ruin the country?"

    1. Debase the value system that provides the foundation for prosperity. Condition people to think that prosperity is bad, that anyone who makes a lot of money is 'greedy." (private plane owners, fat cat bankers) No one deserves to be rich, "At some point you've made enough money." This is class warfare. This is what Obama does.

    2. Foster a set of grievance. "I deserve free birth control and healthcare." Everyone, just because they exist, is entitled to free this and that, provided of course by the productive class. This breeds resentment among people who receive the handouts as their expectations only grow. OWS ring any bells? How about Fluke? Now you've got people thinking the rich don't deserve their wealth and the takers deserve it more than those greedy rich.

    3. All this creates an unstable economy, so why not spend like a drunken sailor, more than all the previous presidents combined. Throw money into failing green projects, print up money and dilute the currency, have a congressional free for all stimulus plan. Have you seen the Obamacare numbers lately? We can't pay it. We don't have the money. Still Obama is spending record amounts every month.

Why would he do this? I guess it depends on who is pulling his strings. With all the smart people in Washington, you would think that they know they are doing the exact things that accelerate the collapse of our economy. There must be a reason for what they are doing but I don't know what it is. Yes it is "asinine" but it is happening.

Kay and Debi, I think Eric Bolling would make an awesome president. What say you?
I really like him, he is as conservative as I am.

Jeez Pia, today Obama was mocking Newt Gingrich. He's the president and he makes fun of people who don't agree with him. He has always done this. "Republicans can sit in the back of the bus." He divides the country. You should see what he is doing to Texas because we're a red state. He punishes you if you don't see things his way.

It's all of the above Agi. All of the above - which has been stated numerous times here over the years. And I have no freakin' idea why he wants to divide us and get back to the days of segregation, because instead of getting past the racial stuff that we all, in 2012, should be past by now, he's taking us back to those days with his policies and rhetoric. Not to mention his highly questionable past associations. I'd like him to tell us exactly what good he thinks the blame-game, class warfare, income equality, woe-is-me garbage is doing to us? His policies are obvious failures too, but he continues to push them. Why? If he cared about doing what is right for America and getting us back to where we need to be, he would have changed course a looooong time ago. But he hasn't. Why? If something isn't working, you change what you're doing. He's been chipping away at our foundation since day one. His presidency is the antithesis of the work and sacrifice of our Founding Fathers and all those who fought and died (and those who continue to fight) for this nation and our freedom.

    Thank you Kay!! Brilliant explanation.

I think I like listening to EB more than just about anyone else on the Five. Well, it's a toss up between Bolling and Gutfeld.

Thanks Jeanine. You're in my prayers as well.

I get it Kay, but not surprisingly Democrats and Republicans just have fundamentally different views on what direction to go. To me #1 is about trying to stop the super-wealthy from taking advantage of the middle class, #2 is about the country I’m contributing to taking care of some of the basic civil needs of it's citizens, and #3 is about someone desperately trying to tread water in an ocean of cr@p that he was handed down by his predecessors...

My point was that there is, or at least should be, a difference between "he is steering the country in a direction that I don’t agree with” and “he is PURPOSELY trying to ruin us”. Of course the second scenario goes much better with the black-and-white, us-against-them, good-vs-evil fairy tale mentality that’s fostered by the conservative media.

How is he punishing Texas, Kay. Since I live here too I'd like to know just what has Obama done to the state to make you say that.

I didn't call her stupid because I don't agree with her politics. I REALLY think she is stupid and, worse, I think she is WILLFULLY stupid. And ignorant.

There is no disagreement with conservatives. Either you agree with their world view or you are evil. There is no "we disagree so let's try to work something out" and there is no compromise. That's why this country is going straight down the cr@pper. Half of our elected officials would rather see it circling the bowl than compromise with "the enemy." Republicans don't care about this country, or at least I see no evidence that they do. They seem to care only about their own political/social agenda and their own political power. The old "with us or against us" mentality.

Now you've gone and ruined it for her by

    A. Living in Texas and
    B. Not feeling persecuted for living in a red state.

That's not what you meant by anyone? Could have fooled me.

Obviously I want someone who is qualified and who I feel is best for the job.
It was not at all obvious to me. When you said anyone, I thought you meant anyone.

Don't forget, it was Bush who started two wars, cut taxes and even sent out rebates besides! If Obama had done that, the Republicans would have screamed about how 'stupid' he was. The hate for Obama is just mind boggling. I have seen a lot of Republican presidents and none received the hateful remarks that he has. Sure, Democrats didn't always agree with what the other side was doing, but we mainly just shook our heads and went on with life. I don't recall the terrible remarks, the scepticism about everything like we are seeing now. Why can't Republicans just say we don't agree with how he is handling the country, instead of making it about his race, religion, birthplace or who his friends were? Can you imagine how this hate looks to the rest of the world? How can we be out there trying to spread democracy, when we are acting so horrible to each other? It certainly doesn't set a good example to 'be like us'. Instead of consentrating on what is so wrong with this country, how about Republicans coming up with good workable solutions. I haven't heard anything to convince me that we would be better off with any of the challenging candidates. All I have heard, is how they want to take away everything our predecessors worked so hard to get.
