As part of National Trails Day 2011, Heather from American Hiking Magazine sent Mike a bunch of questions for an interview to be published in their fall magazine. We all thought it would be more interesting to SEE him answer the questions (and Meyer really didn’t have much to do that day) so here we are – the latest in “Adventures in Interviewing Mike Rowe.” Of course Mike being Mike, it’s a little (like WAY) long so we’ve broken it up into 2 parts. Then again, Heather asked A LOT of questions. Here’s the first part. You can view “American Hiking Part Deux” (yep, we really are that unimaginative) – here . It’ll give you insight into Mike Rowe’s hiking habits like you’ve never heard before. We promise.

Thank you for your support and promotion of hiking. Have you ever hiked the North Country Trails? If not, you should definitely put it on your list – we’d love to have you! Here is a little more info for you: The North Country Trail (NCT) connects America’s red plaid nation, wandering 4600 miles through America’s rugged northern heartlands. Stretching across seven states, this longest National Scenic Trail is brought to local communities through the dedication and hard work of volunteers. Stretching From New York to North Dakota, the North Country Trail already has more trail completed than the Appalachian National Scenic Trail is long.
Mike, I appreciate the poetry and wanted to share with you another from Robert Frost. The Tuft of Flowers. It moved my heart because of my love of the outdoors with my appreciation of the working man. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do. Shannon.
Wow, Mike you have hiked some awesome places. My hiking experiences haven’t been quite so varied, but even if I hike the same trail over and over, I always find something new and interesting about it. I always find myself at complete peace while on a hike and it seems to put everything in perspective for the moment. Looking forward to part II.
I like the way you recite poetry-)
A 2 person tent is more comfy…
I can choose, Mike is smellier.
Thanks!
Lisa
Who would have thought an interview about hiking (as opposed to sashaying or sauntering) would bring up so many memories.
Mike, you always paint such an interesting picture. A cupboard filled with Musselman’s. Were the labels lined up all OCD? Or haphazard?
