Mike, Thanks for your continued support of the Boy Scouts! One thing though…you’re never a “former” Eagle Scout…once an Eagle, always an Eagle! Keep up the good work, and please continue your support for the Scouts!
All that dirt must have clogged your memory Mike! Once an Eagle always an Eagle!!
Hello Mr. Rowe,
My comment (and you probably will get plenty) is not in reference to your jovial version of the Scout Law with “clean” removed. Poking good “clean” (haha get it) fun is fine and making boy scouting fun keeps the boys interested in a great program.
Noooo, my comment is in reference to the way you referred to yourself. The last time I checked once you are awarded the Rank of Eagle Scout you are an Eagle Scout for LIFE. So Mr. Rowe you may be a former Boy Scout but you will always be an Eagle Scout. Actually my son Alex, a Life Scout who is working on his Eagle Project (and a Dirty Job! at that), brought your mistaken reference to being a “former” Eagle Scout to my attention. He is a big fan of your show and honestly seemed a little disappointed you didn’t know you where an Eagle Scout for LIFE. I just hope it doesn’t mean you haven’t forgotten you took an oath as an Eagle Scout to “give back” to scouting.
My son will be attending this years National Jamboree, it would be great if you could look him up while you are there and give him a little nudge on finishing his Eagle Project.

Can’t wait to hear Mike speak, he is one of our favorite TV people. So awesome to have a person like him speaking to the Scouts.
Wow. Now I’m officially jealous of the boys in our Scout troop that went to the National Jamboree. They’ll get to hear Mike in person!
Mike, I’m honored to be an Eagle Scout, and delighted that you are as well. The story about you in the Fall ‘09 Eagletter was excellent!
Thanks for everything you have done, and continue to do, to honor the dedication and hard work of those in our society who make life easier for us!
Thanks for being an inspiration to my 4 teenage sons, they were thrilled to know that you are an Eagle Scout! Some how it made it cool to be in scouting again. I now have 1 Eagle 2 Life Scouts and 1 Star scout.
Thanks so much for being you!
I am glad to see you continue to support the BSA. As a fellow Eagle Scout, I am always proud to see others who have succeeded in life as well.
Your show is a favorite of my family (wife and 8 children, plus me). Thanks for your support of the hard working people who make our society run. Keep up the good work.
I am so jealous of my son now! I knew they would have a ton of things to do while there! I really wish I could be there too! Happy Birthday Boy Scouts!
Wow…I can’t wait to text my son that you will be at the Jamboree. He has already left with his troop and is touring Washington DC before going to camp. Our whole family loves your show. Thanks for making us all laugh!!!
Mike -you worked hard to become an Eagle Scout and always be an Eagle Scout– nothing formerly about it.
Mike,
When you get to the Arena, your biggest fans are in the ARENA SECURITY tent! Stop by, we love to get dirty! We are now 8 days no showers!

Thanks!
Did Mile say Eagle or Evil? really my ears are old but I heard evil. listened twice.
FROM ADMIN:
Mike (not Mile) said Eagle. Most definitely. Thanks!
Thanks Mike! You are the BEST! Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout! You are a great inspiration for those who love to get dirty, especially to all the scouts and scouters who step up and provide thousands of hours of volunteer service & support to their community and countries all over the world. Maybe you can do a show on being a camp staffer!
Greetings From Surf City USA Mike. Thanks for all you’ve done and continue to do for the Boy Scouts. Your work is an inspiration to us all. You are an excellent example. To your continued success. YIS
That is so great that you are a speaker at the Jamboree ~ my son (an Eagle Scout) and husband went to the 2005 Jamboree and would have enjoyed seeing you as a speaker! Once an Eagle, always an Eagle! (and a Mom is always a proud Eagle Mom, no matter what the age of the son)!
Hello Mike, I’m Kevin K. from Troop 1004. When I’m helping a fellow scout to get Eagle rank, there’s always a scout reluctant to get dirty on a project. When he finally gets dirty I say, “once you get dirty, you can’t get dirtier” I would like to invite you to have dinner with my troop and I at jamboree. I promise it will taste better than any weird things that you have eaten on your show(and smell better than any job you’ve been on too). I will be cooking the first night and it would be great if you could come.

Mike, thanks for all that you do for inspiration to the rest of that have “dirty jobs”. As a Scout Leader I also thank you for more inspiration. Maybe you can come out and find/play in my “dirty world” of telcom construction sometime.

Mike: you are never a former Eagle Scout. As an Eagle, and working with young Scouts becoming Eagles, know that “once an Eagle Scout, ALWAYS an Eagle Scout”. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to thousands of Eagles, Scouts and all other people.

It is great to see a public figure who is proud to be an Eagle scout, and to share its message with others. Love your shows and keep us smiling as we watch you living up to the 11th article of the Scout Law.
Mr. Rowe,
Thank you for your support of the Boy Scouts of America. Both my Boys, Benjamin and Brandon Herrera are in Troop 505 in Pajaro California. Maybe with your support of this Great organization, more Boys, and their parents, will be encourage to join. Have fun at the Jamboree.
Sonia Farias
Thanks for the good words. Yes we like to get dirty, always wished we could be more like the Aussies, if you’ve ever seen one of their jamborees. Never a “Former Eagle Scout” always an Eagle Scout. See if you can get a few scouts to get their hands dirty. Stop and see Troop 726 from Vancouver Washington representing Timberline Lodge. Keep up the great work.
Mike Rowe, you rock…..nice video….nice words and my son is at Jamboree…hope he snags a pic with you…thanks for your support…..
Hey Mike! Wish I could be down there to hear your message but we’d love to see you back at broad creek sometime! Stop in, we’re always open!
Mike your loyalty to Scouts is commendable, so many get lost in the present and forget the past and you continue to reach back. My son, Alex, will be at Jamboree, an Eagle Scout, with his younger brother, Life. He will be looking for you, rest assured, your letter he waited the longest for and cherishes the most from his Court of Honor. You are the Man! Keep up the great work.
Mike, Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to address the scouts. My boys were @ Jambo in 2001 & 2005. What an awesome experience. Sure wish we could be there this year. One thing for you to remember Once an Eagle always an Eagle. Those values never go away. By the way our family’s a huge fan of Dirty Jobs & the other projects you work on.

I found your entry interesting so I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog
…
It’s great to have the opportunity to see you, Mike. The Jamboree will certainly be much more fun with you there, even if it’s the most fun place on Earth as it is.
Oh, and two suggestions from me- you could show a bit on TV in a special, along with something like “Dirty Jobs- Camp Staff” and work for a week at a scout camp. Hey, I’d watch it.
You could also push for the 2 fictional merit badges from my home troop of 304- Deep Sea Diving (unclog a toilet the proper way) and “Rescue Submarine.” (put on the gloves and go in after the source of problem)
Thank you Mike for doing what the President could not find time for………..being there to provide inspiration and showing them how well Eagle Scouts fly. Good on you brother.
Mike, Many Scouts of Troop 248 Clinton Twp., Michigan love your show. We especially liked your maintenance of the Mackinac Bridge! Thanks for being a great role model for our young people.
Mike,
Watch your show and enjoy your narration of “Deadliest Catch”. Once an Eagle ALWAYS an Eagle! Thanks for your support of Scouting. YIS!
Appreciate your talking with us Mike. Like they say: Once a Scout, always a Scout. Come visit us in HB! YIS
Mike – you are a true role model!
Thank you for encouraging our young men and being there to applaud their accomplishments. One of mine will be there to see you and it will be a highlight of the Jambo.
Sincerely,
Double Eagle Mom
Mike,
Thanks so much for your support. You make being a scout cool! I never knew you were an Eagle.
We love you.
Mike Rowe for Chief Scout Executive!
Mike-my son Patrick is at the Jamboree in SubCamp 15. He loves watching Dirty Jobs. He is at Star rank and is working on his Life Rank. He is a dwarf and there are some things he can not do but he attempts to do whatever he can. When he gets his Eagle, I will be getting you to send him a letter because it will definately make his day. Keep up the good work at supporting the scouts.
I hope he realized you were there at the Jamboree.
Thanks
Linda Ramey
I just check the Leader section of the Jamboree website, and Mike is listed to speak at the Shining Light Across America arena show on Saturday night 7/31, which starts at 8:00 p.m. EDT. Follow the other Boy Scout links on this website to watch the show live on the web.
Thank you for being such an inspiration and good example for my son who is aspiring to be an “Eagle Scout”. He’s at the BSA Jamboree and its great to know you will be there too. Hope you both have a great week!
Thank you again,
A Big “Dirty Jobs” fan & Tyler’s mom

I second Gary Lee… PLEASE post your speech from this evening. I would love to show it to all of my scouts!
Mike what an awesome speech! I must say you brought tears to my eyes when you mention my DAD….Scoutmaster Don Myers Troop 16. The rush of memories was over whelming. My boys and I enjoy watching your shows and keep up the awesome job. I have 2 Eagle Scouts with 2 Life Scouts in the wings. Plus of course both brothers and my father are Eagle Scouts. Scouting is in my blood. Hope to see you in Oct!
Hey Mike, I was so suprised to see you in the jamboree for the 100th year of scouting. I’m wondering if you can send me a shirt like the one you were wearing. I want to tell you that I am a 1st class scout almost a star scout at the age of 13 years old.
thanks, matt silvagi

Mike,
I read sometime ago that BSA was trying to get you to come to the National Jambo. I didn’t know till tonight that you would actually come. I was so excited to see you and hear your amazing speech with my pack. It was very inspiring and well done. I hope that in the future there will be a Dirty Jobs episode showing all the hard work that goes into working as staff at Scouting Events. I am a lifetime Scouter and darn proud of it. My son is a bear currently and loves Scouting as much as I do. I love it when celebs remember where they came from and the people in there lives that helped pave the way for them. You don’t find that in alot of people anymore and I THANK YOU FOR THAT SIR!!!
Hi Mike I am a Boy Scout myself. I have seen you on tv but sitting at home looking at you on tv and not knowing you were a Boy Scout, well I thought being a Boy Scout is not bad after all.
Thanks for coming and your message – my guys loved your talk as much as us adults did. – I am sure you’ll always be an Eagle.
Mike, Thanks for the lessons on dirt at the National Scout Jamboree last night, you made us proud, once a scout always a scout, no former!! My shirt order is on the way.
We missed an opportunity though to see what it sounded like for 100,000 people so say the Pledge of Allegiance, the Scout Oath, the Scout Law and the Scout Promise!! It’s how every scout meeting should start.
Thanks again.
We watched your commentary on dirt at the simulcast of the Natl Jamboree at the Times Square Jamboree. You were the “Best in Show” by far! I can’t wait to get my shirt!
Thanks for the laughs.

Thanks for coming. I talked to some of the scouts they had a lot of fun I had a lot of fun. I am a life scout, the Qurtermaster, and Patrol leader.
Mike your not a former eagle scout once and Eagle Always an Eagle!!!
Mike,
Was at the show…..great speech. Your shirts were sold out on Sunday at the Jamboree. Thanks for your support of BSA.
Kurt
You are NOT a former Eagle Scout Mike. You ARE an Eagle Scout. Thank you for being there for our boys! The President of the U.S. could learn something from your example…
Mike, my husband and I tuned in to see the live feed of the arena show but missed your presentation. Our twin sons, Harrison and Redmond are attending the Jambo and after the show, when we texted Harrison to see how he liked the show, all he replied was, “Did you see Mike Rowe?” So we tuned in to check out your part on the BSA Facebook page. We almost lost it when we heard about removing “clean” from the Scout oath. Since Harrison was a Tiger Scout, he has NEVER understood why a Scout should be clean! It’s kind of a running joke in our family. Harrison has yet to buy his momento from Jambo and was disappointed today when he told me he went to the Trading Post and all the patches and shirts were sold out. He said the lady in the Trading Post told him he might be able to buy one online. I’m going to buy one for him as soon as I finish this message. Thanks for making Scouting “cool” with the guys You ROCK!
Tina Spencer, Winchester, VA
Thank you so much for speaking at the 100th Birthday Jamboree 2010! This was my first Jamboree! I love your show and did not know that you were an Eagle Scout. Your message to scouts was awesome, and I hope to join you as an Eagle Scout soon…..I earned my Tenderfoot just last night.
Thanks again for representing BSA, the Oath, the Law….and the Dirt : )—TROOP 65, MINT HILL, NC
We all appreciate what you do for the the country. Come join the trash troop at Apple Blossom next year on April 30th to May 1st or May 7th and 8th.
Mike,
Thanks for the continued support of and to the Scouting Movement.
I reached the rank of Star as an active Boy Scout before turning 18 in 1997. I returned to scouting in 2008 at the invitation and constant encouragement of several friends of mine and a co leader who was working on one of his Woodbadge Projects. The minute I saw myself in my Class A Uniform on I wondered “Why did I ever take this off?”
I’m now PROUDLY returning the values scouting gave me!!
I hope you do not mind but I borrowed your quote from the Jamboree show for a Scoutmaster’s Minute
I proudly but humbly serve the youth of Troop 125. In Cadillac, MI

Eagle Scout Mike, thank you for taking time to address our scouts at Jamboree. Your participation helped make Jamboree an awesome experience and surely will aid in inspiring scouts to be the best they can be – clean or dirty.
I guess that explains why you are such a charismatic persona…. (almost a kid at heart…!) I was a fan before, but now I’m an even bigger one, knowing that the qualities of the BSA can show up in the most surprising places,(some dirtier than others!) and through each and every Boy Scout. It shows in you, and I hope it will rub off on the next generation of Scouts… Truly a breed apart…. God Bless you always.
Your speech at the Arena show was so inspiring!! Thank you for the encouraging words. You’re the best.
Dear Baltimore Area Council Dulaney Troop 16 Eagle Scout Mike!
A simple thanks just doesn’t seem to cut it…but a sincere thank you for meeting with some of the local Dulaney Scouts at the Jamboree. All of us predict your inspiring comments of personal leadership growth will be retold for many years. And…introducing your parents to the 80,000+ Scouts, leaders and friends in the audience at the show was way cool!!
Mike, I too am a fellow Eagle Scout (1982, Troop 121, Paden City WV), and I attended the 1981 National Jamboree as a Scout. I was in the DC area this year visiting family at the same time as the 2010 Jambo, and decided to day-trip on Saturday. Being at AP Hill for the first and last BSA National Jamboree was a very moving experience, but off all the great memories I’ll have as an adult visiting the 2010 Jambo, the high point will always be your presentation at the Arena Show. Thanks for coming to the Jamboree in person, and thanks for adding a bit of history, levity, and even bringing a few tears to the eyes of us “old timers”. After being away from Scouting since my college days, you have inspired me to rekindle the Scouting Spirit in my own heart, and get involved again–this time as Scouter–so that I can give back a little to an organization that formed such an important part of me becoming a man…
Mike
Arrived back to Wisconsin last Thursday from the National Jamboree. I just wanted to let you know what a great job you did at the Saturday night show. We could not have asked for a better MC.
Thanks for your contribution to the Boy Scouts 100th anniversary celebration and for your support of the values that underlie scouting. My wife and I were part of the Jamboree staff. My son was a member of jamboree troop 620. He liked with your talk. He was also on the flight with you on the return to San Francisco from the Jamboree along with 70 other scout. Thanks for signing his bacpack. It was the first thing he showed me at the airport.
I was at the Jambo and enjoyed your presentation (it brought back many old memories for me)…but what I have really enjoyed is your letter to new Eagles, the comments to the father’s son and your support of Scouting today. As a plant manager and an “older” Eagle Scout (‘73), I still “get dirty” and really appreciate your honesty in what it takes to be successful. Thankyou for using your position to pass this along to our young men. We need a lot more guys like you in our work force!
