For the first time in history, anyone with Internet access can virtually join the Jamboree celebration. At 8 pm EDT on July 31, “A Shining Light Across America” will broadcast the Centennial Celebration Show, an arena stage event, from the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, VA, to communities across the country via Webcast and satellite transmission.
As part of the event, local council, district, unit and other Scouting groups across America will gather in venues large and small – whether a camp, community center, sports stadium, or New York City’s Times Square – to host their own local activities leading up to the “Shining Light” broadcast. And several of these locations will be given the opportunity to broadcast their own “Shining Light” celebrations back to the tens of thousands attending the main event in Virginia.
“The Shining Light” broadcast will be available via satellite and via Webcast starting with the Jamboree Arena Pre-Show festivities at 5:30 p.m. EDT. The highlight of the broadcast — the spectacular Centennial Celebration Show — will begin at 8 p.m. EDT, and will conclude at approximately 10:30 p.m. EDT.
In addition, anyone with a high speed Internet connection can tune in online at SHINING LIGHT or on the Shining Light section of the BSA’s Facebook page. There, viewers will be able to comment and interact with fellow webcast participants while watching. To learn about viewing plans in your community, contact your local BSA council office. And, if you missed the big event, be sure to visit SHINING LIGHT to watch the archived videos from the broadcast under the “Videos” section.
More than 1 million people are expected to watch the broadcast.

Dear Mike, I am really sorry I missed you at the Jambo, I was there but I had to leave I got dehydrated at Jambo. They took me to the hospital for it and I missed your show live, but I got to see it on satellite, and it was great. You are a great teacher for younger scouts. I think all young scouts should see you talk about it. You put a lot more meaning in scouts than I even had. I’m 59 yrs. old and you are the best I have ever heard. Thank you very, very much for doing that. The boys I have talked to you are all they are talking about even a lot of the parents are. I watch you on TV and listened to you on a lot of other shows, you do a great job. So thank You very much again keep up the good work. Thanks, porkey.
Mike it was such a suprise to find out you are a Eagle Scout. I’m a Tenderfoot from Troop 1125. Well you really inspired me to keep moving. Stay dirty.
Mike,
My son is an Eagle Scout and is attending the jamboree. We watched the broadcast in Baton Rouge and was very impressed with your words of wisdom to the boys. Thank you for being such a wonderful shining example to the BSA. After talking to my Scout after the “party” he thought you were amazing. Quite a compliment from a 17 year old. Thanks again for taking your time to be there and celebrating with all the boys.
Mike, my son was at Jamboree and I watched the simulcast in Durham NC. My son (also an Eagle Scout at age 15) has been a huge fan of yours and your show, and I know seeing you and hearing your scout tales made Jambo super-special. Thank you so much for being there for all of those young men!
Mike, you were by FAR the best part of the arena event!!! Thank you so much for speaking and spreading such a great message. Love your show, and now have even more respect for you.
My son is a Life Scout and and is working on Eagle. He is so proud to be at Jambo this year… But I don’t know whats more exciting for him – Jambo or YOU being there! Mike thank you so so much -
I just checked the Leader section on the Jamboree website, and Mike will be one of the speakers at the Arena show on Saturday, Shining Light. So follow the link above to watch him!!
My youngest son is at Jambo, so he will see him in person. Within the next two weeks he should also be an Eagle Scout – he just has to complete his Scoutmaster Conference and Eagle Board of Review, and I’ll have two Eagle sons!!!
Mike, you aren’t a FORMER Eagle, you are an Eagle, now and always. My son is at Jambo, and can’t wait to see the arena show on Saturday.
Does anyone have an idea what day Mike will be at the Jamboree? The boys in his troop don’t want to miss it!
Mike, Just want to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be at the Jamboree. We have two boys there (one eagle and one almost life scout) and they are having a blast! We love your show….and don’t worry….the boys definitely know how to get dirty!
The Campbell’s
