THIS JUST IN FROM THE 2010 JAMBOREE: Mike’s proposing these 6 Simple Tenets in Defense of Dirt:
1.) I believe the willingness to get dirty is a fundamental requirement of civilized society.
2.) I believe that God created dirt – not cleaning products.
3.) I believe that a clean mind and a dirty body can walk around in the same skin.
4.) I believe that honest work looks an awful lot like dirt.
5.) I believe that without dirt, we don’t eat.
6.) I believe that it’s absolutely, positively essential to play in the mud.
HEY - everybody out there – what do you all think about this? Join in the mission of Dirty Jobs by endorsing or augmenting this Defense. If you have additional suggestions, please say so. Right there in the comment section.

My 17yr old said that you were the highlight of the Jamboree. Thank you Mike for supporting the BSA and being a positive role model for all of the young men watching. We knew you were cool just by watching the show, now we think you are awesome!!
P.S. to get a scout from dirty to clean…..
Pick kid up from camp. Drive with windows down.
Put kid in shower (power washer works too).
Take dirty clothes to washer (DO NOT INHALE).
Load washer. Add soap. Add extra soap.
Run washer twice. If you gag when you open the door, add more soap & run again.
A scout is prepared. A scout’s mom is prepared with a tarp, Febreeze, gloves, and a mask.
Great job at Jambo. Thanks for supporting the scouts. Definitely support a Dirty Jobs merit badge. Getting dirtly is how you know that you are experiencing life. Way to go.
Mike as a fellow Eagle Scout who attended the 2010 National Jamboree I definately agree that it is Perfectly all right for a scout to get down and dirty.
Happy Birthday Boy Scouts!
I was there and all that Mike said is true down to the bone.
I am a Eagle Scout.
I support all scouting.
I WATCH DIRTY JOBS!
I HAVE A RED DIRT SHIRT!
I support Mike Rowe in his quest to change the scout law.
Lets Play “Swing the thing” and “British Bulldog”.
Hey Mike, I was attending the Jamboree and was really looking forward to hearing you speak. The speech and message were both fantastic and you have encouraged me to bring those games back to my troop. They sound like fun. I just overall want to say thank you for what you did and what you are doing. Go dirt!
P.S.
I am 100% for the Dirty Jobs merit badge.
Way to go Mike we are all with you. Keep up the good work.
Mike, great job at Jamboree. when we go camping all the boys see who can stay the dirtiest the longest. We are truly inspired by your work. Keep up the good dirty work.
Hi Mike,
As someone who spends a good part of my day dealing with dirt, I whole heartedly agree to all of the 6 tenets of dirt.Thank you for recognising yet again how wonderfulness of dirt.
Sam
The words you spoke at the Jamboree were an inspiration to all. Our son was fortunate to have seen you at the Jamboree but was more fortunate to have been on the same flight home with you. Thank you for giving the few minutes of your time as they exited the plane. He will always cherish the signature on his hat and promises to stay dirty.
I agree 100%
Hi There,
My name is Kelly and I am here with my 9 year old nephew William. He just got back from the Boy Scout Jamboree. He knows that I have been a fan of Mr. Rowe and Dirty Jobs for years and couldn’t wait to tell me about seeing Mike at the event. He loved watching him ride on the front loader and that he was a Boy Scout too. He is now a huge fan and just got a red dirt scout shirt. William is proud to say that his shirt already has gotten dirty. I am proud that he has such a great role model in Mr. Rowe.
Thanks So Much,
Kelly
Hey Mike,
From one scout to another your speech was amazing. You were the best part of the whole jamboree show. I agree that a scout isn’t afraid to get dirty, he just can’t wait to take off his uniform and get dirty. Down time to a scout is the best time to get dirty. Thank you for coming you made the jamboree one of my best experiences in scouting.

Hey Mike,
My name is Jay Turk and I am in N.J.T 1920. I totally support your speech. Daddy texted me and told me that I fit your 6 points. We love Dirty Jobs. You and others have truly inspired me to be Eagle. Thank you for coming to the Jamboree your speech was 1 million times better than Obama would have been thanks again.

Maybe the scout law “clean”, probably means clean mind, clean actions, clean room, clean way of life?
I just wanted to make sure I signed this petition!
You’re right on with the idea Mike! Scouts and the word “clean” just simply don’t mix! Scouts is all about the outdoors and, well, the outdoors can never be clean. BTW, I loved your speech at the arena show the other night. You were the highlight of the night!
Hey Mike
My name is Adam Byrne and I am a Life Scout with little time left to finish Eagle and your speech at the Jamboree gave me motivation to push foreward to finish my Eagle project. Even tho it was hard to see the stage due to all the people the words still hit home and I thank you for the words of wisdom you gave to all the scouts at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree
I agree with Mike’s points above, and it’s been a conflict of interest, how I have to keep my uniform clean and dry, but when it gets dirty, I still am a Boy Scout no matter how I look from outside, Eagle Scout and proud of it!
Hi Mike! I was lucky enough to visit my son at the Jamboree last weekend. The arena show was awesome and you rocked! I just wanted to let you know that you would be really proud of some of the Scouts in Troop 1901. They worked all Tuesday afternoon and evening to break camp. They worked Wednesday morning to pack up the last of their items. They FULLY INTENDED to shower before boarding that bus for the long trip back to Georgia, but due to weather issues, were unable to. Had you been the one riding home with 3 completely ripe Scouts Wednesday night, you would have had one of the worst smelling experiences in your career! I think they should have issued gas masks to the parents! Needless to say, none of us complained when our hot water tanks were emptied later that night. I will say that even though they smelled (beyond) awful, the boys had the time of their lives and hated for the Jambo to end. Thank you for making some unforgettable memories for many, many Scouts (and parents!) You are a real inspiration to Scouts everywhere.
My scout was at the jamboree and we watched the show from home last Saturday. Thank you for the presentation you provided. It was both fun and encouraging for a Life – almost Eagle Scout.
As the wife of an Eagle Scout and the mother of two more, I heartily endorse your Defense of Dirt. (I also happen to be a longtime fan of the animated Ms. Frizzle, whose mantra was “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!) Good luck – I hope you seriously pursue the Dirty Jobs merit badge. It should be required for every Scout.
As a Scoutmaster I love to get dirty, and love for my troop to get dirty. There is nothing wrong with good clean dirty fun. Like you I played British Bulldog as a Scout. Your talk at the Jambo was great it shows that you are still one of us.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
How about this one:
I believe that dirt is the glue that holds civilization togehter.
Ok, that was stupid. I do like your dirty tenets, Mike.
Looks like they were getting dirty at Jamboree! Thought of your speech when I saw this photo!
Photo #7 here:

Thanks for the speech Mr.Rowe it was inspiring so inspiring that we played SWING THE THING the next day of Jambo!
Thanks again!
I agree 100% because scouts today need to get dirty and be back in the game. Thanks for coming to the Jamboree, I was there and your speech had a strong impact. This again.
Mike,
My son just got back from Jamboree. From hearing him talk, you were the highlight of his experience. I told him the president might be there (ha!) and he said ok… I told him you would be there and he was tickled to death. We’ve always loved your shows, but you got even better in my son’s eyes when he found out you are an Eagle. I talked to my son every night for a minute or two. Never could get much out of him. I watched the Shining Light show on the internet. My son texted me numerous times while you were talking. He was so excited.
He did tell me prior that he hadn’t bathed in a few days because the showers were so dirty. Then you got to the defense of dirt… I just had to tell him that he fit your Tenets in Defense of Dirt perfectly.
I think the main thing the word “Clean” means in the Scout Law is having a clean mind. The boys (and leaders) can and do have clean minds while getting dirty doing the activities of Scouting.
Thanks for SHOWING UP at the Jamboree and making such an impression on so many boys. It’s been almost a week and people are still talking about your part in Scouting history!
Yours in Scouting!
Hey Mike,
I love these six points. I also really like the last one. While at the jamboree, after the big rain storm, my troop decided to start a mudslide. At first, I didn’t want to get dirty but then I decided to have some fun with it. Even the scoutmasters got involved. That was one of the funnest things I did that week! So, I completely agree with point #6! Thanks!
Dearest Mike,
You are a real person with a heart of gold (or the heart of an Eagle!). So many in our society have lost touch with the real down to earth person that is at our base. I saw your initial msg online and the subsequent Jamboree speech you gave. You gave of your real self and you were and are a complete inspiration to all those who saw you – boys, girls, men, women, parents, leaders… all of us. I was so completely touched when at the end you said, “There is no place I’d rather be than right here with you”. Children of all ages need to hear this. They need to know this and when they know this — they hear you– they listen to your message — they are inspired to think, do, and act. All those who worked with our kids to facilitate, the one on one, the leadership, the bagging of lunches, and the cleaning of the latrines… this is their spirit and you embody it.
Your message is simple, amazing, and inspirational. I hope the BSA takes your words and message deeply to heart. One of my son’s most prized shirts is the holey, stained, slightly wonky shirt that he wore during his OA ordeal. His very dirty shirt! He loves it, and wears it to work in to go to OA events in. No one knows about it but him (and anyone else reading this, lol). I know for a fact that you one of his and MANY other kid’s most memorable moments at Jamboree, and perhaps the Mysterium Compass.
I would also like to tell you that your experience of entering Scouts with no Cub Scout experience and achieving all that you have achieved is a wonderful example for many boys starting late feeling often a little behind (when they really aren’t). I think you might be mentioned in a few Scout Master Minutes!
As we often say in an off hand way… “Use your powers for good”. The impact of all you do has had and will continue to have a profound ripple effect. You didn’t just throw a pebble… you heaved a boulder.
I thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. Oh, and we have visited the red dirt shirt company in Kauai… love their washing machines… covered in red dirt!
Our Family motto has always been… Life is washable.. not quite the same, but along similar lines. Thanks Again Mike! We love you and we are very loyal to your show — and will continue to be!
Mike – I was sitting in that audience Saturday Night – I loved your speech.
You’ve got my vote – very well said!

PS – I really hope you filmed a Dirty Jobs episode with the guys running the environmental grinders in the camps.
Hi Mike, love your show, keep it up. Loved what you had to say to the scouts, You are a great representive of what Scouting can do for a young man. Great ideas about your tenets of dirt defense. I hope that BSA does come up with a dirty job merit badge and cub scout belt loop. Why should just the older scouts get all the fun? I still think that you should go out to the Golden Spike National Historic Site at Promitory Summit outside of Corinne Utah and go out there when they are cleaning the boilers and smoke stacks of the 119 and Jupiter. That is dirty clean fun. I use to work out there as a locomotive fireman and maintenance worker for 1 season.I am also a former Boyscout and Assistant Cubmaster.
Hey Mike,
Fantastic speech at the Jamboree! I was on staff there and spent all day on the 4th crawling around in the mud while we took down our staff area, the Mysterium Compass show put on by the OA, because it had rained the night before. I ended up with mud up to my knees from working in it. It was really a dirty job! Thanks for coming and inspiring so many young men to strive to be the best they can be and to get dirty along the way. My best wishes in the future,
Sean
P.S. I am within one week of turning 18(8/13), and will soon be joining you and my fellow scouts as an Eagle Scout, Troop 46, Phelps,NY And Happy 100th Birthday Boy Scouts of America!
Hello, I totally agree with all 6 of these!! Number 5 in particular hits quite well as I live and work on a dairy farm!! A bumper sticker that I have says ” God Bless America, and the Farmer that feeds you!!!” Keep up the good work Mike!!
My son just returned a little tired and a lot dirty from the Jamboree. He said that one of the highlights of the week was when you spoke. I have been a fan of yours for a while but I never realized how much the kids really look up to you till now. He states that you are one of the reasons that he wants to get his Eagle and is doing his project next week.
In a world where kids tend to want to emulate people that are in trouble all the time you are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for not only talking the talk but more important, walking the walk.
Stay dirty!
Dirt- its not just for breakfast anymore.
Hey Mike,
I was at the BSA 100 with my troop, 29 of newtown PA and just wanted to say it was awesome!!! You were definately the best person there, of course. I’ve only seen a few of your shows, but now that I’ve seen you in person I really want to see more!
Thanks for listening,
John (Eagle in training)
Mike,
I was at Jambo when you made your amazing speech!!!!!! I just wanted to let you know that I got in the car and my Mom said that I was dirty and I said Mom Mike Rowe said a Scout is not afraid to get dirty. So Mike I thank you for your speech and I will carry those words with me always
Woo mike I’m with ya on that and I play swing the thing in Troop “1″ 301 but one of my scoutmasters swings it and sometimes it gets to waist high. Iwas at Jambo with troop 1420
I agree with you Mike.
Mike, you are the definition of what makes America great. Our family has been fans of Dirty Jobs since the first episode of good “dirty” fun that we love watching together. We all watched your speech on the web and you made us proud
My oldest son was there sitting near your sweet parents. So when he just returned after some rough experiences at Jamboree (huddled in the bathroom at 4am with 50 other smelly scouts for THREE hours), I reminded him: a scout goes through a lot of uncomfortable stuff, and learns to LIKE it. Swing the thing!
HEY MIKE!!! I love your show and I love what you are doing. I am an official Eagle Scout of 2010 and I feel like I’m on Cloud 9!! I do hereby swear to these rules that tell me that a Scout is clean, but not afraid to get dirty. I’m proud to be an Eagle Scout and even more proud that I can share the same honor as you yourself did.
Stay dirty,
Clay Thompson of Corpus Christi, Texas
P.S. You should watch the movie Paint Your Wagon and here the song “The Best Things In Life Are Dirty”
HEY MIKE,
I am a Life Scout working on my Eagle . I live in good old NJ. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed seeing and hearing what you had to say at Jamboree. You are a true inspiration to anyone looking to be become Eagle. You most likely have been getting this a lot but thank you .

The New Proposed Scout Law-
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obediant, cheerful, thrifty, brave, not afraid to get dirty, clean, and reverent,
Mr Rowe, your a great role model for our scouts, thanks and keep it dirty…
I believe these principles are absolutely inspired. Too many people are afraid to get dirty even if it is doing honest work. I applaud teaching scouts that a clean mind and a dirty body can absolutely dwell in the same skin. Thanks for bringing this principle to light.
I’m a Boy Scout who went to the 2010 Jamboore and support Mike Rowe’s Dirty Jobs merit badge.
Cool speech, I went to the Jamboree and had a great time.
I am totally for the t shirt. i bought one for my friend and i. By the way, you are AWESOME!!!!!
I would love to have a dirty job merit badge I am always willing to get dirty and agree 100% that a scout is clean but is willing to get dirty.
Hey Mike, Thanks for going the Jamboree and sharing your message. I thought it was great. I also always watch your show and I think that it is AWESOME. My brother and I know how to get dirty to because he is a soccer goalie and I am a scout who knows how to have fun. Anyway thanks again.
I was at the national jamboree and your speech was amazing and I think your in Defense of Dirt thing was awesome thanks for supporting scouting.
I am a Boy Scout in Cedar Park, Texas (close to Austin)and I think that the “6 Simple Tenets in Defense of Dirt” is 100% true because without dirt there wouldn’t be survival (like a chain reaction to rule five)and THANKS for being a Boy Scout because you give us Boy Scouts someone to look up to.
Mike,
Thank you for taking the time to speak to the scouts at the National Jamboree! The message you sent to the Scout’s was perfect – even though it may take several years for the Scout’s to realize its significance. Again, thank you!
–Chris Collins, Eagle Scout
Mike, I was and the Jamboree and absolutely loved your ideas and these 6 simple tenets. Your segment was my favorite part of the arena show and maybe of the whole Jamboree! I look forward to living out all of the aspect of dirty jobs after I obtain my eagle.
Mr. Rowe
Thank You for all you have done for scouting. I attended BSA 2010 Jamboree and your speech was great. Thank You again.
And I support the 6
Connor Doyle
Hello Mike,
Your speech at the Jamboree was fantastic! I watched it with my Pack (992 Bethania, NC) at a ballpark in Winston-Salem, NC. As a fellow Eagle Scout (’74, Transatlantic) I found your presentation to be inspiring and funny. The boys loved it! Thanks for being there for the Scouts on the 100th B-day. I have also been looking at some of the videos you post on the Discovery Channel and really liked the one about bringing your passion with you instead of following it. Great advise!
Keep up the “Dirty” work!
Just got back from the jambo. All I have too say is God made dirt, dirt don’t hurt.
p.s. Nice hat.
Hey Mike I agree with your defense of dirt lol.
Mike,
Great job! My whole family attended the 100th anniversary Jamboree and we agreed that you were the highlight for us. As the mother of an Eagle Scout, a Life Scout, and a Scoutmaster husband, dirt is a part of life. I fully agree with your defense of dirt. Did you hear the joke about the scientist who decided he could build the universe just as God had and decided to prove it. “All I need is a cup of dirt.” and God said, “Get your own dirt!”
Go for it Mike!!!! I’m a life scout from Baltimore, MD. I attended the Jamboree. I was the one screaming my lungs out. I will bring back “Swing the Thing” and “British Bulldog” back to Troop 918 (my home troop) in Severna Park, MD.
Your appearance at Jamboree was the highlight of our experience there. Troop 113 of Webster, NY loves you!
Hey mike
I was there when you said that and the reaction was great.
Everyone loved it
Hey Mike I was at the jambo i was part of Jambo troop 127 from RI I relay liked your speech and I related to it alot. Also I think it was 10 time better than Obama’s speech. O yeah my home troop, troop 711 Albion, RI are planning to play Swing the Thing at are next meeting lol.
Oh yea, just for a breath of fresh air, the kid in the video I posted was fine!
Hey Mike,
Awesome speech at jambo! Thought I would show you my troop, Troop 353 from Duxbury MA getting dirty!
P.S.
Thanks for the new game!

Hey Mike,
I am 12 years old and a First Class Scout. I heard your speech the other night at Jamboree and appreciated that you spoke to us on our level and didn’t use a lot of big words. THANKS. I also wanted to thank you for helping me overcome my fear of heights. I am very afraid of heights, but decided to try repelling. I started at the 1/2 way point and went down a few times from that level. Then I thought if I can do it from 1 height, why not the higher level, so I tried and I DID IT! Thank you. by the way, I love Dirty Jobs!
Thank you Mike Rowe for speaking to our Jambo Scouts and Scouters. My husband and I sat at home and watched the show from our couch. I like what you had to say and I believe the boys did too. As a mother of two teenage boys, I appreciate your Tenets in Defense of Dirt.
Hey Mike,
Your messages to Scouts were right on target. The most obvious was “Do the hard, dirty work that no one else will do and learn to love it, success will follow” but the one that meant the most, I think, was the recognition of your parents. That sealed the deal and proved what kind of Scout you are. It was a brief yet powerful message to all scouts and anyone else who’ll watch your speech. “Family” and the support it brings to youth is what this country needs and that’s found in Scouting probably more than anywhere else. You are a credible spokesman for dirt, there is no doubt, but probably more so for regular people. Keep up the good work.
Hey Mike,
I’m not one for words but I’m a scout who saw you at the Jamboree and may I say that I not only enjoyed you being there but I also like your ideas for both the tenets and the Dirty Jobs merit badge. I hope that they gain headway and acceptance I would gladly support them.
Dirt is vital to life. I agree with you Mike 100%!
Mike, Boy Scouts and Dirt are part of the greater whole. Have you every seen a worn out Scout uniform. No matter how dirty a Scout gets, he and his uniform can be washed up and will look just like before the meeting of boy and dirt. Some scouts acquire more dirt them others and are considered “Dirt Magnets” and for some reason unknown to Scout Leaders, they always are at the back of a hike eating dirt/dust from the rest of the troop and loving it. remember a little “Scout pepper or seasoning” makes the meal a little more crunchy to the well heeled. Hooray for Dirt! Without it we would have nothing to stand/walk/hike on! The signs say “Don’t Walk on the Grass” so without Dirt, where else are we going walk on. I pledge to maintain the “6 Simple Tenets in Defence of Dirt” in all my scouting activities. Your speech at Jamboree was Great! keep up the great work and stay Dirty!…. Davey the Silver Bobwhite, Crew 291, Southern Sierra Council
Love you at the Jambo.
Thanks for coming.
I also have played swing the thing and bulldog… ahhh the memories..
Awesome job at the Jamboree show on Saturday. I’ve seen many boys have that ‘first meeting’ experience. You hit the mark!
Another supporter of the Boy Scouts in Defense of Dirt!!!!
Great speech Mike. You could have ran the whole show.
After careful consideration, I have decided to endorse this Defense. Perhaps the EPA should take a look…
A man will be clean when he spends one day covered in dirt.
Hey Mike,
I saw you at the arena show and the day after the show I had to clean the latrines. While we were cleaning them my gloves ripped, the hose shot toilet water all over me, and you don’t want to know the rest. But I thought to myself that this would have been a perfect dirty job. It was so perfect that if I had a video camera I would have made a show. I believe completely in your mission.
Awesome! I teach preschool and have been amazed for years when parents are upset because we play in water, sand, and dirt! Messy is fun and has so many educational principles(social, science, sensory, etc) Thank you for getting the word out I agree with all of your thoughts on dirt! Thanks for being courageous to go against the grain and say it!
Hi me again from the Peoria/morton, IL area. Troop 178 would love to see you when/if you come in to do your “job” with the CAT people. Our scouts are coming home with who knows how many loads of DIRT laundry from Jambo but will never forget the experience (nor want to get rid of the dirt).
Thank you for everything you do, not just for Scouting, but for the real workers in the trenches!
Wotamalo District Merit Badge Coordinator, Mom of Eagle Scout, Troop 178 Committee Member, and an advid fan of DIRT!
My Troop from NJ helped out the Forest Fire Service by clearing burnt trees from a control burn location. Talk about getting dirty with the ash from the trees. We were very dirty by the end of the day, but went back for more after an hour rest or so. Here’s to getting dirty for a good cause.
Hello All!
I am proud to say that I am a fourth generation scouter (and a girl!!!)! My great grandfather started scouting in the 1930s and then my grandfather and now my father!!
I am with an Explorer Post and have been for 9 years! Exploring for my group is Firefighting and EMS! I am now an advisor and I do a few speeches for the Greater Niagara Frontier Council and proud of it!
As a firewoman and EMT I am not afraid to get dirty… and not only do I follow the Boy Scout Oath, and the firefighter and EMT oath as well, and now Mike’s Oath! So to all of you out there…and you too Mike….Congrats!
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYSCOUTS AROUND THE WORLD!
I am Scoutmaster in Upstate NY and believe in everything you said at the Jamboree (sitting in the staff section with 9,000 of my new best friends). My day job is in transportation planning. Congress used to understand that we need a great transportation system to support the American economy. The Interstate Highway System is the greatest public works project in the history of the world. Now our elected leaders could care less, and the bridges will keep falling down. Boy Scouts will get dirty! Let’s train them to be builders, and makers of things.
Mike, Saw the introduction of your new “job”! Nice entry on the piece of CAT equipment. Newpaper article ran the next day of your new “job” and I commend all that you do to highlight the everyday America people! The youth at the Jambo arena show all loved you and wish there was a “Dirty Jobs” merit badge! I am all for it as a Merit Badge counselor and would love to add this one to my list. Keep doing what you do and you are one of the real Scouts out there. We agree that every scout should get dirty. Being ambassedors of nature and goodwill is what the tenents are about. Thank you!!
Holly Geier, Morton, IL Caterpiller Country!
Great Job, Mike! Thank you for the great talk at the Jamboree. I was there visiting my two sons. Your presentation was the high point of the entire jamboree. I agree 100%. THANK YOU.
Absolutely in defense of dirt. Let them try to put that in Wii!!!
Thank you for your wonderful words. My Life Scout was at the arena show on Saturday, while my Webelo and I watched at home on our computer in Chicago. Truer words never spoken! Thank you for being an awsome ambassador for Boy Scouts and inspiring scouts and leaders alike.
Consider this another signature!
From one Eagle to another, I loved your talk at the Jamboree! Very inspirational and from the heart.
Your speech was the high point of the Jamboree celebration for me. Thank you for being there and being a great supporter of Scouting. Troop 25 Boise, Idaho.
Mike what can I say. You are awesome! Never miss a show. You were my highlight at the show. Just missed you when you were in the car getting ready for the show. Bummed me out. Anyway, I believe This should be added to the scout oath. I know our boys are never clean!
We just came back from the Jamboree, and must say your speech there was great! You connected with all the kids(and those that are kids at heart). GREAT JOB!
My Eagle Scout son and 1st Class son with Troop 1101 were there to hear you in person – my husband, daughter, my parents and I watched on TV back in Nebraska. You have a new family of fans! We love the shirt and are going to order them for the whole family. Thanks for the wonderful message you gave us – best keynote address I’ve heard in a very long time! We are passionate about scouting. My daughter earned her Girl Scout Gold Award in 2009 – highest honor a girl can earn. My son earned his Eagle in 2010 and the youngest is on track to earn his as well. Thanks for being a role model that you can point your kids to! Now I’m going to go catch up on your show. . .
Best idea ever!
So far I have watched your Jambo appearance twice on ustream…once with my hubby and again with my 11 year old who just crossed over to Troop 184. You were FABULOUS!! My older son was there on Saturday night…he is a Life Scout and the SPL for Jambo Troop 241. You could have not done a better job connecting with all of those boys and sharing your experiences! I hope that hearing you speak encourages him to continue to work hard and earn Eagle Scout! We all love Dirty Jobs and love you even more for what you’ve done for the Boy Scouts!!
Thanks for such a great message at the Jamboree. What a wonderful experience for us to all share together. You definitely inspired all of us, adults and boys alike! We’re watching the replay of it on tv right now
I hereby sign my name to the above tenets and will not be afraid to get dirty when necessary. That was the best speech in the whole arena show by the way, I mean, Obama’s video message got booed and we cheered for you like 10 separate times during the speech. Awesome job!
Mike – My son is at the Jamboree and will no doubt bring a new level of dirty home with him, just for his mom.
Please tell me that in one of your upcoming shows will your job will be that of being an 11-18 year old Scout. That’s a dirty job!
Mike, My oldest son is at the Jamboree, my husband, youngest son and I went Saturday and saw the show in person. We loved your speech and my boys wanted your scout t-shirt. I just ordered shirts for the whole family. My oldest worked at summer boy scout camp this summer, and my husband and youngest son went to camp for a week. We know all about DIRT! Thanks again for the inspiring speech Saturday night. I know that will inspire boys to stay in scouts and get their Eagle.
Hey Mike,
Awesome speech Saturday, I was there near the front. Whens the Dirty Jobs merit badge coming out? Let me know then please…
Hey Mike,
Amazing Speech wish I could have seen it in person I’m an Eagle Scout as of 2009 I couldn’t agree more a Scout Needs to be clean but willing to get dirty. I really learned that with my Eagle project … Never knew concrete could be so dirty.
